Satisfied With The Saviour (Psalm 63:1-8)
By: Evangelist Frank Walker
Psalm 63 is one of the greatest chapters in the Bible. David was fleeing from his son Absalom when he wrote this Psalm. Things seemed dark, dreary, and discouraging around him, but in the midst of it all he found delight and deliverance as he was Satisfied with the Saviour. Are you presently facing some storm or sorrow? Jesus is always present and will see you through.
I. His Consecration: V1-2
A. The Statement: V1 He began by saying, "O God." What a way to begin a day! He woke up with God on his mind. Do you wake up with God on your mind? "Early will I seek thee." David didn't waste any time. He knew that the Lord could get him through his plight, so he turned to Him. Many people fail to seek the Lord when they are facing a crisis. It is always advantageous to seek the Lord first in all things. David was in a dry and thirsty land. However, he thought of the Lord and was thirsty for Him. Do you suppose that is why America is backslidden because there isn't a hunger and thirst for the Spiritual? Sure it is. It is high time for Christians to seek the Lord and serve Him.
B. The Search: V2 David longed to see thy power and thy glory. In the midst of what he was facing, he longed to see God. Perhaps many people don't seem there is a way out of their problems because they are too busy looking at the crisis instead of the Christ. People need to take their concerns to the Lord and keep their eyes upon Jesus.
II. His Commitment: V3-6
A. Praise: V3 David said my lips shall praise thee. He wasn't looking down. He was looking up. David got to thinking about the Lord's lovongkindness and started praising the Lord. Do you take time to praise the Lord from your heart? Is this your story? Praising My Saviour All The Day Long!
B. Priority: V4 David made it a priority to bless the Lord. He wasn't going to spend his day being critical or complaining. He said, "Thus will I bless thee while I live." That was his everyday pattern. His desire and determination was to bless the Lord. He was qualified to bless the Lord because he said, "I will lift up my hands in thy name." This was the condition of his heart. David was clean, consecrated, and committed to the Lord.
C. Pleasure: V5 "My soul shall be satisfied." David knew no matter what happened he was satisfied in the Lord. As a result, his life was filled with abundant pleasure, "as with marrow and fatness." He continued by proclaiming, "My mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips."
D. Perception: V6 "When I remember thee upon my bed." What a thought-provoking verse! Think back on verse 1. He began by saying, "Oh God." He thought about the Lord when he woke up. Now he thinks about the Lord when he goes to bed. If you want a good night of sleep, the best antidote is to reflect upon the Lord. "Meditate on thee in the night watches." No matter what time of the night it was, David was going to meditate (turn over in his mind) upon the Lord's person, power, presence, and provisions.
III. His Comfort: V7-8
A. Safety: V7 "Because thou has been my help." They realized the Lord had been with him throughout the day, as well as life. He could rest well knowing he was sheltered in the arms of God because he said, "Therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
B. Strength: V8 "My sould followeth hard after thee." David was somewhat glued to His Lord. His desire was to follow Him. Is that your desire? Even in the midst of adverse circumstances? Too many people give up and give in when soem storm arises. But that wasn't David's attitude. He followed the Lord. "Thy right hand upholdeth me." You can rest assured that if you know the Lord, and you're living for Him you are in good hands. Afterall, he made the universe, planets, and everything. He is absolute Soveriegn.
Are you Satisfied with the Saviour? May this Psalm encourage you to live faithfully for the Lord as you follow Him daily.
