Serving the Lord (Joshua 24:14-31)

It is extremely essential for every Christian to serve the Lord Jesus. Joshua 24 is a tremendous guideline for us to follow. The word serve is mentioned 13 times in this passage, while served is recorded 3 times. Joshua's name means Jehovah is Salvation. Three truths we need to focus upon. (NOTE: For the sake of time and space I will list the points and verses. Please have your Bible open as you study these outlines).

  I. The Delight: V14a "Now therefore fear the Lord"

  A. When- "Now"

  B. What- "Fear"

  C. Who- "The Lord"

 II. The Direction: V14b, V23

  A. Faithfulness- V14b "Serve Him in sincerity and in truth"

  B. Forsaking- v14b "Put away gods" V23 "Strange gods"

III. The Declaration: V15-31

  A. Choice- V15

  1. Personal- "Choose you"

  2. Public- Keep in mind Joshua had a crowd present.

  3. Permanent- "This day" means present and permanent.

  B. Contagious- V16, V18, V21, V24

  C. Contemplation- V17-18

  D. Challenge- V19

  E. Chastisement- V20-22

  F. Command- V23

  G. Covenant- V24-28

  H. Continuation- V29, V31
